No need to dust off your parkas just yet – summer still has a good bit of fight left in it. But for many, this upcoming weekend marks a pivotal moment in time: a transition between carefree warm-weather fun and the perennial feeling of buckling down for fall.

Don’t let the magic of late summer slip through your fingers! We’ve rounded up a list of easy-to-plan activities for the long weekend. Enjoy them with your friends, your family, your partner, or even all on your own if you’re in the mood for a little solitude.

Make sangria

Take a moment to look back on the past few months. If you haven’t enjoyed at least a few glasses of velvety red sangria, we highly suggest getting on that ASAP, before mulled wine becomes the season’s drink of choice! There’s no shortage of recipes out there for you to sip on, and if boozing isn’t your thing, we’ve got you covered with a non-alcoholic version.

Go to a farmer's market

Tomatoes. Sweet corn. Peaches. Chard. Conduct a quick online search for which foods are at their peak during late summer and pay your local farmer’s market a visit for the tastiest, juiciest produce of the year. Then, ascend to foodie heaven!

Get out into nature

Whether you’re more of a camping buff, canoeing fanatic, or just looking to jump in a shimmering lake, you’ll definitely be kicking yourself in a couple of months if you don’t find your way out into nature at least one more time! Hot, sunny days and cooler, cozy nights make late summer the perfect time to give the great outdoors one last hurrah before winter sports take the reins.

Stargaze

Grab a blanket, find a patch of ground, and behold our beautiful universe. While the mid-August meteor showers will have already passed by, there’s never a bad time to connect with and be humbled by the night sky. If you’re a first-timer, here are a few simple stargazing tips from real-life astronomers!

Have a picnic in the park

It’s a cliché for a reason: picnics in the park are the ultimate return to childhood fun, whimsy, and wonder. Sit amongst the tall grass and enjoy the late summer breeze against your skin accompanied by a delicious spread of drinks and snacks. Picnics lend to fun finger foods and cheese board assortments by nature, making them the superior outdoor dining activity.

You’ve got a few more days to plan out your three-day weekend adventure – so make this long weekend count!
